The Ultimate Detox Smoothies

To recap our detox learning to date:

The more you poop, the more successful your detox plan is.  

But that alone maketh not the detox.  Otherwise, you'd get loads of people drinking crazy stuff like lemon-maple syrup-cayenne elixirs and only pooping by way of a colonic!

Oh wait.......that actually happens...... :(

To me, a good detox gives the liver and digestive system a rest and nourishes the body with an overdose of nutrients that it can use to repair and regenerate itself.

Smoothies are a great way to fulfill BOTH of these objectives.  Here are my top two detox smoothie recipes - one sweet, one savoury to fix you up at either end of the day.

RISE & SHINE DETOX SMOOTHIE

  • 1 cup spinach

  • 1/2 cup frozen blueberries

  • 1/2 small golden beet

  • 1/2 apple

  • 1 cup unsweetened almond milk

  • 1 cup water

  • generous 1/2 tsp cinnamon

  • small knob of fresh ginger

  • 1 tsp coconut oil

  • 2 scoops Designs for Health Protein Powder

Put all ingredients in a high speed blender and whiz until smooth.

THE DETOX GAZPACHO

  • 1.5 cup flat leaf parsley

  • 1/2 ripe avocado

  • 1 cup chopped fresh tomato

  • small piece red onion (less than a 1/4 piece)

  • 1 garlic clove

  • juice of half lemon

  • 1 cup ice cubes

  • 1 cup water (or more depending on how thick you like it)

  • salt, pepper, cayenne powder as you like

  • 1 tbsp extra virgin olive oil

Put all ingredients in a high speed blender and whiz until smooth.
